Boise Travel Information
Not only Idaho’s state capitol, Boise (area pop. 400,000) is also the
state’s largest city. Located along the river and mountains that share
its name, Boise is a spread-out city filled with parks and
outdoor-loving people. One of the most notable features of Boise is
the dedication shared by much of the populace to preserving the
natural beauty of Idaho. This devotion is evidenced in the open spaces
that can be seen throughout Boise. The Greenbelt is a motorless park
running for 25 miles along the Boise River, while the Grove is a large
city park near downtown. All told, there are several thousand acres of
parks within the city. The surroundings are also kept pristine, with
the edges of the Boise National Forest just a few miles from downtown,
leading up into the central wilderness areas of the state that are a
haven for backpackers, river runners, and anglers. Boise features
all the services and amenities you would expect from a city of its
size, as well as a few surprises. A symphony orchestra, opera company,
ballet, and several theater companies bring the performing arts to
this corner of Idaho. Students at Boise State enjoy the many dance
clubs, bars, and coffeehouses near the university. The largest
community of Basque outside of Europe has created a unique subculture
in parts of Boise, and the skiers, cyclists, and backpackers who make
Boise their home base contribute another element to this eclectic
population. Boise is located in southwestern Idaho along Interstate
84. For more information about Boise, please select an area of
