Boulder Mountain Travel Information
Boulder Mountain rises 11,000 feet above Capitol Reef National
Park. It makes up half of the Aquarius Plateau, a highland that
occupies some 900 square miles north and west of scenic Highway 12.
The Dixie National Forest covers this plateau and this mountain
with pine, spruce, fir and aspen. Camping and hiking these woods are
both popular activities, but not as popular as fly fishing for trout
in the range’s countless streams, small lakes and beaver ponds. There
are also some wonderful scenic drives through and around the range.
The area is not heavily promoted, so visitation is relatively (and
pleasantly) light.
Small towns along Highway 12 (east and south of the range) and
Highway 24 (north of the range) offer lodging and dining
opportunities.
