Capitol Gorge Trail Intermediate
5.25 miles oneway 3 hours
You can hike along the dry riverbed in the bottom of Capitol Gorge at the end of the scenic drive. The gorge cuts through the reef to the east.

Cassiday Arch Trail Difficult
1.75 mile oneway 1-1/2 hours
Cassiday Arch Trail climbs steeply up the northern face of Grand Wash Canyon and then heads across slickrock to a vantage point near Cassiday Arch.

Believed to have been used by the famous outlaw Butch Cassidy in his many escapes from the lawmen of the day. Relive some Old West adventures of your own on this wonderful red rock trail.

Cassidy, Rich, & Ledge Point Trails Intermediate

These three trails intertwine with each other to form several loops ranging from 3 miles to 8 or more miles.

Casto Canyon Trail Intermediate

This trail takes you into a wonderful world of red hoodoos, sandstone cliffs of white, pink and even green colors. The spectacular red rock is evident along most of the Casto Canyon ride until you reach the forested areas of ponderosa pines where the colors change with every turn of the trail.

Chimney Rock Trail Intermediate
3.5 mi. semi-loop 2-1/2 hours
Chimney Rock Trail climbs switchbacks to good views of Chimney Rock and some nice panoramic views of the park.

Cohab Canyon Trail Intermediate
1.7 mile roundtrip 1-1/2 hours
The Cohab Canyon Trail climbs steeply over switchbacks then more gradually to a hidden canyon above the campground. A short side trail leads to a lookout.

Coyote Gulch Intermediate

Coyote Gulch is an awe-inspiring side canyon of the Escalante that can be explored as an intense hike or a not-quite-so-intense hike, depending on your preference.

Coyote Hollow Trail Intermediate

The Coyote Hollow Trailhead is the eastern access point to the Thunder Mountain Trail.

Fremont Gorge Overlook Trail Difficult

Fremont Gorge Overlook Trail crosses a mesa then climbs steeply to a lookout 1,000 feet above the Fremont River.

Fremont River Trail runs along orchards adjacent to the Fremont River and then climbs Miners Mountain to a good viewpoint of the reef.

Along this trail, you will take in spectacular views of red rock cliffs, and wind your way through ponderosa pine forests, quaking aspen stands and sage flats as you climb in and out of the canyons.

Frying Pan Trail Difficult

Frying Pan Trail begins at mile 1.1 of Cohab Canyon Trail and follows the ridge of the Capitol Reef escarpment before joining Cassiday Arch Trail about 3/4 of a mile from the arch.

Golden Throne Trail Difficult
4 mile roundtrip 2 to 3 hours
Golden Throne Trail climbs steadily out of Capitol Gorge to great views of the reef and Golden Throne, a massive sandstone monolith.

Golden Wall, Castle Bridge, & Buckhorn Trails Intermediate
4 miles 2-4 hours
Although these trails were once separate, the Golden Wall Trail was extended so they now connect to make a nice loop that showcases the colors of the Claron Formation.

Grand Wash Trail Easy
2.25 miles oneway 1-1/2 hours
Grand Wash Trail travels along a narrow wash bottom beneath 800 foot sheer canyon walls.

Hickman Bridge Trail Intermediate
2 mile roundtrip 1-1/2 hours
Popular Hickman Bridge Trail climbs to a shaded dry wash that leads to Hickman Bridge, a graceful sandstone bridge that spans 133 feet over the wash. The Trailhead is 2 miles east of the visitor center.

Losee Canyon Trail Intermediate
2.9 miles 3-6 hours
Located at the bottom of Losee Canyon, the trail follows the canyon floor, winding through the red hoodoos and the many colored sandstone cliffs up to the higher elevations of the Red Canyon area.

Lower Muley Twist Canyon Difficult
16.5 mile loop 8 to 10 hours
Muley Twist Canyon is a beautiful deep canyon cut into the waterpocket fold of Capitol Reef. This trail climbs slickrock up the waterpocket fold, winds through the superb, deep Lower Muley Twist canyon and then returns through a broad grassy valley.

Navajo Knobs Trail Difficult
9 mile roundtrip 5-6 hours
Navajo Knobs Trail continues where the Rim Overlook Trail ends and climbs another 500 feet to a great 360 degree panoramic overlook.

Old Wagon Trail Difficult
3.75 mile roundtrip 2-1/2 hours
Old Wagon Trail crosses a wash and then climbs through shrub woodland along an old wagon road. The trail leaves the road near the end and climbs to a knoll with great views of the reef.

Paunsaugunt Trail Intermediate
20 - 75 miles
Views of the Pink Cliffs, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and the Kaibab Plateau in northern Arizona greet riders (and hikers) of the Paunsaugunt ATV Trail.

Rim Overlook Trail Difficult
4.5 mile roundtrip 3-4 hours
Rim Overlook Trail starts with the Hickman Bridge Trail but then climbs sharply above the dry wash to sheer cliffs 1,000 feet above the park and nearby orchards.

Thunder Mountain Trail Intermediate

8 miles 4-6 hours
One of the premier trails in the region, the Thunder Mountain Trail follows a normally dry wash for about 1.5 miles before climbing a series of steep switchbacks to a ridge that overlooks Red Canyon to the north, Wilson Peak to the southeast, and the Sevier River Valley to the west.

Tunnel Trail Intermediate
4 miles 1/2 - 1 hour
From this trail there are excellent views of the 2 highway tunnels along with a spectacular view of the colorful rock formations looming above the tunnels.
