Before getting on the river, you'll have an opportunity to unwind in luxury accommodations at the Sorrel River Ranch Resort. Sorrel River Ranch is located 20 miles from Moab amidst some of the most colorful and dramatic landscape in Canyon Country. Western River guests enjoy rooms decorated in an upscale western fashion. Whether you are swimming in the resort pool, exercising in the fully equipped gym, reading a book on your covered balcony, hiking, going on the trail ride, or dining at the River Grill Restaurant, the Sorrel River Ranch Resort is a memorable experience.After breakfast on the morning of the third day, you'll depart by bus to the launch site for your four day Cataract Canyon expedition. Your trip launches just up-river where the docile side of the Colorado belies the explosive force of rapids you'll experience two days later. The smooth-flowing currents wind through Canyonlands National Park where sculptured sandstone, isolated buttes, and redrock castles offer unparalleled vistas for hiking and picture-taking.
The mood of the river changes drastically as the canyon deepens to 2,000 feet and explodes into an all-day fury of whitewater rapids. In one of the Colorado River's steepest stretches called The Big Drops, your raft plunges 30 feet in a matter of minutes through rapids that match those of the Grand Canyon in power and difficulty.
You loosen your grip after Imperial Rapid, bidding farewell to the roar, and have a chance to relax and enjoy a night of camping on the banks of scenic Lake Powell. Here you'll meet your motorcoach for the return ride to Moab or Grand Junction.
