Dinosaur National Monument - Rafting

Wilderness Rafting Vacations
Wilderness Rafting Vacations

The Green River through Dinosaur National Monument offers some great multi-day and single day whitewater rafting opportunities. You might also consider a solitary canoe adventure on the White River 40 miles south of Vernal. Your options are listed below.

Select Whitewater Rafting Guides & Outfitters for companies that offer whitewater rafting, kayaking or canoeing trips.

Green River - Browns Park to Lodore Class I
2-3 days
This segment of the Green River is gentle, threading through Swallow Canyon and Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge. Paddling should be no difficulty. The river is as deep as it is calm. Watch for wildlife along the steep banks; you'll see plenty of it.

Green River - Gates of Lodore Up to Class IV
3-4 days
The Canyon of Lodore runs 19 miles to Echo Park at the confluence with the Yampa River. It contains the best rapids on the river, including Disaster falls, Triplet Falls and Hell's Half Mile -- all Class 3 rapids.

Green River - Lodore to Echo Park Up to Class IV
3-4 days
The Canyon of Lodore runs 19 miles to Echo Park at the confluence with the Yampa River. It contains the best rapids on the river, including Disaster falls, Triplet Falls and Hell's Half Mile -- all Class 3 rapids. At the confluence the river widens and picks up speed as it heads west 17 miles through Whirlpool Canyon to Ruple Ranch. This section contains good, though less frequent rapids. At Ruple Ranch the river widens and slows, and gently meanders 5 miles through the Island Park area to Rainbow Park. .

Green River - Split Mountain Up to Class III
1/2 to 1 day
The Green River through Split Mountain is a popular single-day trip in Dinosaur National Monument. It features a series of Class 3 rapids.

Yampa River Up to Class IV
Day-Day
The Yampa River travels through northwestern Colorado, before joining the Green River just a few miles east of the Utah border. It is the only major tributary of the Colorado that is still flowing freely unhindered by dams. Due to its relative isolation in an under-traveled part of the state, river rafters can find a peace and solitude lacking on more crowded raft trips in popular areas.

Yampa River - Dinosaur National Monument Up to Class IV
2-4 days
The Yampa River enters Dinosaur National Monument at Deerlodge Park and runs 45 miles to the confluence with the Green River at Echo Park. Along its entire length is pretty, deep canyon scenery. The river is mostly flat, though swift, and has a few big rapids.
