Eons of erosion have left for posterity the surreal and striking rock formations of Bryce Cayon National Park, a protected area laced with hiking trails but also accessible on a scenic drive.
The Elk Park Loop follows dirt roads and single track trails up into the forested slopes of the Uinta Mountains. Along the way are views of the peaks of the Uintas and the Flaming Gorge area. The route passes the Ute Lookout Tower and attractive Brown Lake. Some steep rough sections may be a bit tough on the legs, but there's nothing unhikeable here. It's the length that really makes this a difficult walk.
