Description
The Grand Gulch/Cedar Mesa Plateau is a unique area for exploring nature and a part of history. This is a place where ancient cultural resources are found in primitive and wilderness-like settings. Most canyons and cultural sites can only be reached by hiking or backpacking.
Backcountry permits are required in the following Cedar Mesa Canyons: Grand Gulch, Slickhorn Canyons, Fish Canyon, Owl Canyon, North and South Forks of Mule Canyon north of U.S. Highway 95, Road Canyon, Lime Creek, and their tributaries.
Throughout the mesas and canyons of Southeastern Utah, there are numerous places important to Native Americans and to the other people who live or visit. During your stay, recognize how important these sites are to all of us: Native Americans, non-Indians, historians, and archaeologists. You will see along many fascinating things along the way like dwellings, pottery, tools, and art work. Treat it with care and respect, so that others can enjoy it too.
