Burr Trail 70 miles 4 - 5 hours
The Burr Trail is a great scenic backway. It starts in the town of Boulder, crosses through the northesternmost portion of the Grand Staircase and then climbs up and over the waterpocket fold of Capitol Reef. Past the waterpocket fold it joins Notum Road..


Capitol Reef Country Scenic Byway 66 miles (106 km)


Cottonwood Canyon Road 46 miles oneway 2 hours
Cottonwood Canyon Road travels for 46 miles through rugged and remote areas of the Colorado plateau from Cannonville to near Lake Powell. The route passes the interesting eroded rock forms of Kodachrome Basin State Park and runs through wonderfully colored Cottonwood Canyon.


Highway 12 Scenic Byway 122 miles oneway 4 hours
Highway 12 is one of the most spectacular scenic byways in the country. It begins at Hwy 24 near Torrey and runs south and west for 122 miles to Hwy. 89 south of Panguitch.


Hole in the Rock 115 mile roundtrip 6 hours
The Hole-in-the-Rock Road runs through rugged areas of the the Grand Staircase before ending at Lake Powell.


Johnson Canyon/Alton Amphitheater 35 miles oneway 3 hours
This route runs through the Grand Staircase area from Hwy 89 near Alton to Hwy 89 near Kanab. It features some pretty canyons and views of the colorful cliffs in the area.


Kanab Scenic Byway 60 miles oneway 1 1/2 hours


Mt. Carmel Scenic Byway 60 miles (96 km)


Paria River Valley 10 mile roundtrip 1 hour


Scenic Byway 12 124 miles (199 km) Three hours to drive or three days to experience the Byway.


Smokey Mountain Road 78 miles oneway 5 hours
From Escalante, this route climbs switchbacks 1,200 feet up Smokey Mountain before winding through the exceptionally rugged desert landscape of the Grand Staircase. Along the route are some good views over Lake Powell and up to Bryce Canyon National Park.
