THE OUTFITTER: Founded in 1975, Hondoo is owned and operated by Pat Kearney and Gary George. Their adventures have been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Sunset Magazine, Western Horseman and National Geographic Traveler. Observer's have lauded their guide service for its educational value and their trips for the small group size and low-impact camping techniques they helped establish as the backcountry standards.THE COUNTRY: The canyons of the Colorado River system have sculpted a maze of plateaus, mesas, buttes and spires. This is the canyonlands of the Colorado Plateau. Hondoo's trip focus on the mid-section of the Colorado Plateau, west of the Colorado River. The landforms featured are Capitol Reef, Escalante Canyons, San Rafael Swell and the High Plateaus.
THE TRIPS: Hondoo offers trip participants the opportunity to experience remote and seldom visited backcountry locations for a day or a week. You may join a trailride, hiking trip or vehicle tour which feature complete outfitting with deluxe basecamps or inn-to-inn lodging. Most of Hondoo's trips are designed to just get away and see the country, however some trips are designed to view desert bighorn sheep, wild horses, buffalo, elk or birds-of-prey. Also, Hondoo's offers day and multi-day trips to examine pre-historic Indian rockart sites which the canyonlands are world famous for. For fun in the sun--or rain, join us!
