Description

Kodachrome Basin State Park is a small, attractive park surrounded by colorful cliffs. It boasts the world's only collection of "sand pipes," some 67 in all. Sand pipes (a.k.a. "chimney rocks") are oddly shaped rock pillars that rise 6 feet to 170 feet above the ground. Their origin is not understood, though they seem to have been extruded up through the ground. (The park got its name from the leaders of a National Geographic expedition in 1948 who used the then relatively new brand of Kodak film.)

Kodachrome Basin is located south of Hwy 12 about 20 miles southeast of Bryce Canyon National Park.
