Provo - Biking

The Wasatch Mountains around Provo provide great opportunities for mountain biking. Click on any trail name below for more information.

American Fork Canyon Overlook Trail Intermediate 9.6 miles
This out-and-back trail will take you to a high viewpoint, from which you can see where the South and North Fork converge in American Fork Canyon.

Ant Knolls Intermediate 2.5 miles 1 hour
The Ant Knolls is a scenic, short singletrack on a narrow trail. The elevation change can be taxing.

Aspen Grove Summit Trail Intermediate
Advanced
2.9 miles one-way 1-3 hours
Smooth trail broken up by rocks and roots to make it just a little tougher - an intermediate rider can manage the downhill, though, and possibly the uphill if they're careful.

Big Spring Hollow Trail Intermediate 3.5 miles
This is a fun, smooth ride that lacks much in the way of tricky dips or obstacles.

Blackhawk Trail (Loop with Rock Spring Trail) Intermediate 18 mile loop
The Blackhawk Trail is a narrow singletrack that twists through aspen and pine along the top of the Nebo Loop in Payson Canyon.

Bonneville Shoreline Trail - Provo Canyon Intermediate 6 mile roundtrip 1 to 3 hours
The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is a series of trails along the slope of the Wasatch Mountains where the old shoreline of Lake Bonneville met the hills.

Deer Creek South Fork Loop Intermediate 6.6 miles 1 hour
This is a swift and not-too-hard ride that does have a narrow portion that requires a bit more skill. There's a good-sized elevation gain, but it's gentle.

Diamond Fork to Strawberry Ridge Advanced 24 mile loop 2 - 3 hrs.
The view from Strawberry Ridge is nothing short of astounding and the ride itself is thrilling, twisty, and wet.

Fifth Water Loop Advanced 21 mile loop 1/2 day
Fifth Water Loop features some excellent singletrack riding in a rather remote area.

Forest Lake Advanced 9 mile roundtrip 3 - 4 hrs.
Advanced and technical, this loop is all steep climb and steep descent.

Hobble Creek Paved Trail Beginner 9 miles roundtrip 1-2 hours
This paved trail works well as an easy family route.

Jordan River Parkway Beginner 7.5 miles one way 1-2 hour
The parkway is the gentlest of paved trails and it runs right up against the Jordan River.

Lake Mountains Intermediate
Advanced
29 mile roundtrip 4 - 5 hrs.
This is a long shoreline ride best attempted by advanced riders.

Pot Hollow Intermediate 12 miles 3-4 hours
This trail runs downward from Pole Line Pass to Little Deer Creek valley. Count it an intermediate run . . . if it gets too hairy on the steeper downhills, it's easy to walk.

Provo Canyon Race Loop Trail Intermediate 4 miles
Climbing to the loop itself is the toughest part of the trail. The loop is more fun than aerobically exhausting.

Provo Parkway Beginner 13 miles oneway 2 hours
This pleasant easy route runs from Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon through Provo and ends at Utah Lake State Park. It follows the Provo River and passes through numerous parks.

Shram Creek Loop Intermediate 8.7 mile loop
The climbing in Payson Canyon is a little intense, but the ride isn't too difficult (other than aerobically).

Silver Lake Flat Reservoir Intermediate 40 mile roundtrip 6+ hours
Take a ride along the shore of this pristine alpine lake. It's long, but worth it.

Squaw Peak Road Intermediate 22 mile roundtrip 1/2 day
This route follows dirt roads through some very pretty mountain scenery and past numerous great views.

Sundance Biking Trails Beginner
Intermediate
50+
Sundance Resort has miles and miles of trails from beginner to intermediate level. Buy a lift ticket and it's all downhill from there.

Three Forks Loop (Cottonwood Creek to Fifth Water) Intermediate
Advanced
16 mile roundtrip
The Three Forks Loop is a strong-intermediate to advanced trail in Diamond Fork (near Spanish Fork Canyon).

Tibble Fork Advanced
Expert
11 mile loop
Tibble Fork is for advanced bikers only. It's the downside of Pine Hollow trail's upside, a steep, technical descent that's as thrilling as it is difficult.

Timpanooke Loop Intermediate 5.25 mile roundtrip
The Timpanooke Loop is a favorite of bikers in northern Utah County.

Wardsworth Creek Trail Intermediate
Advanced
6 miles roundtrip

Windy Pass Trail Advanced
Expert
13 miles round trip
Bike from Provo Canyon's South Fork to Windy Pass . . . if you can. This is a very difficult trail that has no less than a 3,300-foot vertical climb.
