Tourist destinations to consider near Wasatch Plateau / Sanpete Valley are listed below. Click on any name for complete information.

Capitol Reef National Park
Capitol Reef National Park consists of a 100 mile long ridge of marvelously colored and wildly-varied red-, orange-, tan-, cream- rock. The park is rather isolated and is relatively lightly visited. Some of the most outstanding features of the park and its best short hikes can be accessed from Hwy 24 and the park's short scenic drive. The more adventurous can backpack or 4wd to exceedingly rugged and remote areas of the park.

Fish Lake
Fish Lake is a large natural lake 8,800 feet up in the heavily forested Fishlake Mountains. The lake has good fishing for large lake trout. In the surrounding area are some good hiking and biking trails. Winter brings heavy snow and opportunities for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and ice fishing.

Price Population: 9000
Price is a mid-sized town on the edge of terrifically remote expanses of desert of the Colorado Plateau. Nearby is Nine Mile Canyon with some of the best ancient rock art in the state. South of Price lies the northern portion of the San Rafael Swell while to the west is the Wasatch Plateau.

Provo Population: 275000
Provo is Utah's third largest city. It is a clean, pleasant city situated between the Wasatch Mountains and Utah Lake. It is home to Brigham Young University, the largest church affiliated university in the country. The mountains surrounding Provo provide good hiking, mountain biking and fishing opportunities among beautiful alpine scenery. Also nearby are Timpanogos Cave National Monument and pretty Sundance Ski Resort.

San Rafael Swell
The San Rafael Swell is a terrifically wild and lightly visited area of desert canyons in the heart of Utah. Visitors here should expect plenty of solitude in a harsh but starkly beautiful setting. Several rough but passable scenic drives are available as is backcountry hiking for the adventurous. The San Rafael River through the "Little Grand Canyon" makes for a pleasant flat water trip by raft or canoe.
