More Info Canyon Overlook Trail

This trail is accessed off Hwy 9 east of Zion Canyon. It winds along the top of Pine Creek Canyon to a lookout with fine panoramas over lower Zion Canyon.

The network of trails to lower, middle and upper Emerald Pools are most rewarding. Lower Emerald Pool is surrounded by hanging gardens of fern, moss and monkeyflower and fed by three small waterfalls that run off Middle Emerald Pool 50 feet above. The trail climbs up and around to Middle Emerald Pool and then an additional 220 feet to Upper Emerald Pool, a beautiful small pool with a white sand beach.

Hidden Canyon Trail climbs the east side of the canyon to an interesting narrow canyon. The mile long canyon is no more 60 feet wide at most points and contains some small caves and a natural arch.

Hop Valley Trail runs along a valley enclosed by sandstone knolls. Along the way is wonderful Hop Valley itself, a very flat grassy valley sitting beneath 600 foot cliff walls. The Hop Valley Trail ends at La Verkin Creek Trail, but you'll want to go another mile to see Kolob Arch.

One of the best backpacking trips in the park is La Verkin Creek trail to Kolob Arch. You can extend this trip by continuing on La Verkin Creek trail past the side trail to Kolob Arch another 5 miles to Willis Creek.

Observation Point Trail branches off of Hidden Canyon Trail at the .6 mile mark. The trail is a narrow paved catwalk cut into the steep Echo Canyon wall for a portion. All along are great views, but the final panoramic view out over Zion Canyon is fantastic.

The Pa'rus Trail is a paved path that runs along the Virgin River between South Campground and the beginning of the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. The path is open to bikes.

This mostly flat paved trail follows the Virgin River up through the ever narrowing canyon to the point where the canyon is only as wide as the river. Along the way water seeping from canyon walls provides nourishment for heavy plant growth.

This looped trail climbs the west side of the canyon for good views of several named features of the park, including the Three Patriarchs and the Streaked Wall.
