Salomon Escape 9 Pilot Ski Boot description

Explore the winter world with the Salomon Escape 9 Pilot Ski Boot. This touring boot wraps your foot in Thinsulate for warmth and gives you a supportive, flexible cuff for logging some serious mileage. Salomon's touring fit leaves more room than their classic or skate boots, yet locks your heel down. The first time you slip into these boots, the Custom Fit Liner molds to your foot to provide amazing comfort. Salomon's Sensifit internal harness envelopes your midfoot for improved control on short downhill sections.

Bottom Line: Wear the Salomon Escape 9 Pilot Ski Boot and tour to your heart's content.

Good, but caution !!

Got the new Pilot boots to replace an older pair of Salomons which I loved. Two shops and the Salomon people swore the Pilot boots would match both the older Profil and new Pilot bindings. THEY DO NOT! The rear Pilot bar-pin does not align with the groove on the Profil binding. A very nasty surprise 950 miles from home!!That said, these are typical, well made Salomons. Good fit right out of the box for my big, wide feet. And they are warm!! Good solid control especially when edging around curved track. Reasonably light, responsive, and a good "foot feel" for track conditions. Recommend for everything except racing.

I just used these boots to complete the Grand Traverse Backcountry ski race. A 40 mile course through the rugged Elk Mountains between Crested Butte and Aspen. The boots worked incredibly well. They were comfortable for the long skinning sections and I had good control on the steep and scary descents. I used a pair of Superfeet insoles to add some arch support and improve my downhill control. The insoles that come with the boot were much too thin and offered no support. The boots were warm even on the bitter climbs over 12,300 ft Star pass and Taylor pass. If breaking trail a pair of gaiters would be nice but not mandatory as the thinsulite insulation worked even while being a little wet inside. All in all a very good boot that can handle a lot of abuse and doesn't cost a fortune.
