nice light
uw_m77:

bought on steep and cheap, nice light for the price, well constructed. like the option of led or bulb

Love my Lamp
Chris Lowe:

I have used this lamp on 2 weekend outings so far and I love it. The LEDs are all you need to see to eat, dig in your pack, and collect firewood, and if you need to see things further away the Xenon lamp really brightens up the night. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I don't like having to cycle through Xenon and LED each time, I would to be able to turn them on and off seperately.

Helion Headlamp is OK
Mj:

Its built well though somewhat cumbersome. AAA's in the headlamp assembly would be better. The incandescent portion of the lamp does an adequate job while the LED portion leaves something to be desired. The light provided by the LED's is white/blue and casts an odd hue. This is a good unit for close-up work or trail walking. Definitely not a good primary light source due to limits on brightness. Generally speaking, it would be nice if the industry standardized units to lumens in technical specifications of light models. Candlepower and wattage are misleading and confuse consumers.

lightweight and some decent battery life
bwood:

I have been enjoying this new product. It is really lightweight. I like the fact that you have the brightness of the xenon bulb if you need it, but have the LEDS to rely on for most use. A step up from those super light LED only headlamps without sacrificing serious weight.

Solid middle of the road lamp
Cave Crawler:

I bought as my primary light source for caving - I was disappointed. The incandescent light has a narrowly focused beam but doesn't project as far into the darkness as I had hoped. The 3-LEDs do a terrific job for proximity lighting and the power settings features are useful for stretching battery life. I do appreciate the power level indicator. I found trying to adjust the angle of the headlamp with gloved hands usually caused me to either change the power level or switched the unit off, which was inconvenient. This light proved useful when I was in the middle of the group caving and only needed a proximity light. With the alternate power settings I easily got 6 hours out of one set of batteries with a continuous burn time. After the trip the power level indicator is still blinking green that's how good the electronics are.If you plan to lead your way in a cave there are better headlamps suited for that. If you camp, hike, or do other activities, this is a great lamp. It just doesn't perform in in large caverns in total darkness like I had hoped it would.
