Black Diamond RPM Backpack - 1587cu in description The Black Diamond RPM Backpack's 1lb 4oz weight and low-profile design make it a great choice for ultralight day hikes and trad routes when you need to lead with a pack. | Bottom Line: The Black Diamond RPM Backpackfor times when you can't quite clip everything to your harness. |
The ultimate ultra-light pack
SpriteMV:
If you like to go ultra-light, the RPM is your pack. Typically, when you go ultra-light you lose many features found in heavier packs. However, this isn't the case with the RPM. The has an exterior compression cord for quickly stowing things to the pack and it doubles in functionality to compress the contents of the pack. The backpack sits very close to your body to minimize its effect on your agility. But beware, while it's good for your balance, the packs narrow profile is not so great for carrying books to class. The pack also has pockets for hydration bladders and water bottles, things that are missing in many similar packs. Also, the material is surprisingly durable for how light it is. If you are looking for a backpack for long hikes or to haul your climbing gear between crags, I've found nothing better than the Black Diamond RPM.
Near Perfect Pack
JbJ:
I bought this to replace an old North Face pack. I use it primarily for long distance hiking and it works perfect. I've hiked hundreds of miles with this and it all my week long gear fits nicely into it - including my sleeping bag, extra cloths and food/water. Weighing just over a pound, this is ULTRA light. The back pads are really nice and comfortable and it means the bag doesn't collapse like a lot of the GoLite ultra-lite packs do. The 2 extra zip pockets on the top of the pack are really handy for important things. My only wish is that the bottom of the pack was larger than the top instead of the other way around. But it doesn't make too much of a difference. Overall, a GREAT pack - especially if you've gone the Jardine way and can hike long distances with little weight!
