The brackets work well on conventional luggage racks but not on my Isuzu Rodeo.They're compact and easy to use.
Yakima gunwale brackets on narrower vehicles.

I could not use the brackets as shown on my Jeep Liberty and had to invert them tho make 'em fit the width my 17 ft canoe. Nice and snug though, even without the painters tied off.
