Lowa Mountain Expert GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's description Lowa built the Mountain Expert GTX mountaineering boot to travel lightly and deliver confidence-inspiring grip and stability. The Vibram Mulaz sole provides longitudinal stability and is crampon-compatible. This sole grips rock and snow with authority, and the PU wedge midsole provides shock absorption for increased comfort during the long haul. A Gore-Tex lining provides waterproofing and offers increased insulation. Its upper is made from abrasion-resistant split leather for precise break-in and durability. The extra-high rubber rand adds stability and increased weather and impact protection. | Bottom Line: Hikes lightly, but does it with big grip. |
Great boot

Great summer mountaineering boot with just enough foot flex. I was looking for boot to do Mt Rainier in July/Aug. I first tried the La Sportiva Trango S EVO GTX, but thought it was too light and the Trango does not accept step-in crampons. Lowa's boot looks like it will hold up better over the years compared to others, accepts all types of crampons and is easy to break in.

own this boot and it is awesome. right out of the box it hiked well. have done some serious approaches and not even a hot spot. climbs ice well also, from ouray(ice park to skylight area), vail rigid designator, amphibian, into the belfry, esmeralda. Cody ice to, moratorium, high on boulder, mean green. while in cody coming back to the vehicle had to do the shoshone river shuffle and the boots dried really quickly.
