Grivel G12 Crampon description Alpine climbers and mountaineers count on the versatile Grivel G12 Crampons to take on any terrain they encounter in the mountains. This time-proven design is an excellent choice for everything but the steepest pitches of ice. Horizontal front points on the G12 reduce sheer in less-than-solid ice and other types of alpine funk. Three available attachment systems let you pick the perfect 'poons for your boots. |
Grivel G-12 review
YukonJack:
This crampon might look conventional, but it's not. Grivel has configured the geometry of the secondary points to be condusive to proper frontpointing technique. If you want "the crampon" that will last you a lifetime, then look past Petzl and BD, only get Grivel. They are worth it. I have climbed Grade IV, 5.9 alpine mixed routes in mY G-12's, and my friends borrow them to climb WI4. The construction and quality of this crampon is unrivaled in the climbing industry. Of course, Grivel invented the frontpoint crampon, so I would expect no less from them.
A Classic Crampon- "NewMatic" Attachment System Works Well
Jonathan Shefftz:
This is a classic 12-pt steel crampon, so not much to say here, although the semi-automatic (i.e., heel throw, with plastic toe cradle, not a wire bail) "NewMatic" attachment system is very secure.
Great all-arounder
pistehor:
Performs very well on alpine routes and soft waterfall ice. The horizontal front points dont shear threw snow like vertical ones, the trade off is that they dont penetrate hard ice well and are just ok on hard mixed stuff. Bottom line: the best out there for alpine. Hard water ice and mixed, look elswhere.
