100L Bag gets Oversize Bag Fee
jared.danz2172248:

I bought the 100L Huey after reading somewhere (probably not here, unless they changed the description) that it is the largest bag that can be checked without being charged for an oversized bag. Most airlines consider a bag with L+W+H > 61" to be "oversize." The 100L Huey is exactly 61" if one uses the AVERAGE width, but not if one uses the _maximum_ width at the base of the bag (the bag is shaped like a trapezoid and the top is narrower than the bottom) Recently flying Airtran from LGA to ATL I was charged the oversized bag fee when the bag was measured at 64". Numerous protests went nowhere and numerous airline representatives confirmed that the policy is to measure the maximum dimension and give no credit for irregularly shaped bags. I was $30 the poorer for my experience. I had previously flown American with the bag (also fully loaded) and was not charged a fee, but that was before oil went above $120 and the airlines went nuts trying to collect additional fees. Two stars because the bag's build is bulletproof, but buyer beware.

It's maiden voyage was to AK. for a backcountry ski trip in the Tordrillo mtns. Perfect bag for this trip. I need a lot of packing room and the huey provided that. Once on the glacier I needed a bag that could with stand the elements, it did that. Big zippers with easy function was the key as I was wearing mits. Ice was never an issue. It performed as well on the glacier as it did in my living room.
