Edelweiss Sharp Double Climbing Rope - 8.5mm description

Edelweiss Sharp 8.5mm Super EverDry is a half rope that pulls its weight--and then some. Many traditional, alpine, and ice climbers prefer a set of half-ropes to just one rope. The advantages include reduced rope drag in wandering situations, longer rappels, and less weight. Some climbers consider the thinner diameter of half ropes to be a disadvantage in certain situations as it makes the rope more sensitive to abrasion and being cut when running over sharp edges; Edelweiss, however, provides an elegant solution to this problem with their Sharp Edge Resistant Ropes. Where most conventional ropes fail when drop tested over a 0.75mm edge radius, the Sharp Ropes remain intact. All Edelweiss Sharp Ropes come standard with the Super EverDry and Perdur treatments the Super EverDry treatment gives both the sheath and the core of the rope a hydrophobic coating, and the Perdur treatment means this rope is 33% more abrasion resistant than untreated ropes of the same diameter. Wow! Comes in 60m and 70m lengths. What more could you ask for?

Sharp 8.5mm Double Rope
Michal.D:

Great double rope. In July '07 I climbed with two friends multi-pitch routes in Hochkoenig, Austria. Double rope for the lead, single rope for the seconds climbing in parallel worked very well. The 8.5mm rope thickness and good rating gave us some extra assurance. The rope handled well even during rain showers. -Michal

Excellent handling qualities
John Stainforth:

I have been climbing for forty years. Early on I favoured Edeldrid ropes as the very best, then Mammut and now EdelWeiss which I think are the best of the excellent range of modern ropes available. I bought Sharp doubles because my latest single is a Sharp 10.5 and I really liked that. I also like the idea to the abrasion/cutting resistance properties (but luckily I haven't put that to the test)

Sharp 8.5mm Double - one year later
Michal.D:

Just adding to my previous review one year later. Since August last year I have been trad climbing with the Sharp double in the Dolomites, Yosemite & Tuolumne, and other places. The ropes show excellent abrasion resistance despite of the increasing mileage. They also caught a few low F-factor falls without issue or damage. I highly recommend the rope.
