Easy Rider
rgcarve:

Best thing about the S6 is its EASY to use! Simply set your reference altitude, start your logbook, ski / ride powder all day, stop logbook, check vertical, drink beer, sleep, wake up and repeat.

pretty good overall
pauld:

Its pretty good overall. The compass, elevation charting, and memory functions rock. The functions that suck are the temp (basically whatever your body temp is) and the inclinometer as it is such a small area to get a reading of the slope. Maybe I just don't know how to use it properly though.Being able to look at multiple days on the same graph is really cool. I would recommend this watch to any gearhead.

You guys are retarded
Gboettcher:

ANY watch that has an altimeter needs to be adjusted anytime you go do an activity. ANYTHING except for a GPS will need adjustment

Suunto S6 Altimeter
Brian Muller:

I'm going to have to say the same thing as the other person. Its a great watch, has tons of functions, but you always need to switch the screen to see different things and it takes some time knowing where everything is, and the altimeter ALWAYS needs adjusting, I think I am going to return it. Its not a bad watch though, because as I understand altimeters have to work off the barometer, but I have to get one that doesn't need so much adjusting.

Excellent tool, just know how to use it
MTNPro:

Excellent tool, you need to know how to use it This is by far one of the best altimeters on the market! Unfortunately it is only as good as the user. Once you know how to properly use this tool it will perform flawlessly and if you don't understand the basic working principles of a barometric altimeter you will be frustrated. The resetting issue is one that you will find in any good altimeter. It is a sensitive device so it must be set regularly. Anyone who tells you a GPS is better at altitude reporting is dead wrong. The altimeter functions on most GPS are based only on the GPS signal making them subject to the same inaccuracies that are inherent in all GPS units. While the X and Y axis calculations are fairly accurate (conservatively plus or minus fifteen feet) the error on the z axis (attitude) calculations in even the newest GPS receivers are typically 1.5 times the X / Y error. See http://gpsinformation.net/main/altitude.htm for more detail.
