Fish Lake Travel Information
Fish Lake is a large natural lake, 6 miles long and 1 mile wide,
situated 8,800 feet up in the heavily forested Fishlake Mountains. The
lake is a bit too cold for swimming, but there is good fishing for
large lake trout. There are two marinas on the lake, lodging units, a
couple of restaurants and developed campgrounds.
Surrounding the lake is the massive Fishlake National Forest, a
stretch of wood that consists of over a million acres. Hiking and
biking trails are easily found among the trees and offroading is
another popular activity. Winter brings heavy snow and opportunities
for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and ice fishing. The woods hold
another attraction, one you may not recognize at first glance.
Fishlake National Forest is home to “Pando,” a group of genetically
identical male Aspen trees that share the same root system. “Pando” is
the heaviest living organism in the world and is spread atop the Fish
Lake Plateau.
Fish Lake is located along Highway 25, about 7 miles east of
Highway 24. It is about 20 miles northwest of Loa and 34 miles
