Monticello Travel Information
Monticello is a small town (pop. 2,400) at the edge of the Abajo
Mountains. At 7,000 feet, it boasts more pleasant summer temperatures
than other communities in southeastern Utah. It serves as a good base
for visiting the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park (45
miles northwest) and the bordering Abajo Mountains. It is also en
route for those traveling on Highway 491 to or from Mesa Verde
National Park in Colorado (90 miles southeast).
Golf is Monticello’s highlight and the Hideout Golf Club is truly
unique, situated along the Outlaw Trail in the shadow of the Abajo
range. Sports in general are something to watch in Monticello,
especially triathlons and motocross races.
Monticello is located at the junction of Highway 191 and Highway
491, about 55 miles south of Moab and 21 miles north of Blanding. View
Area Map. Monticello has a number of motels, a few private
campgrounds, several
dining establishments and most other services a traveler might need.
