The Bear Canyon Bootleg Trail follows a dirt road through open forest and meadows to a nice overview of Red Canyon. A signed side route takes you to Flaming Gorge Lodge. The trailhead is located off Hwy. 191 opposite the Firefighters Memorial Campground a few miles west of the dam.
Sweet Ranch Trail

The Sweet Ranch Trail begins at the Greendale Rest Area on Hwy 44 (just east of its junction with Hwy. 191) and follows a dirt road past historic Sweet Ranch and on to a fun downhill section. The route becomes single track as it enters a grove of aspen and crosses a few streams. The return entails a difficult 1-1/2 mile climb up to your starting point.
Canyon Rim Trail

The popular Canyon Rim Trail starts at the Red Canyon Visitor Center and follows the edge of the canyon for about a mile before turning away through ponderosa and aspen forest to the Greendale Rest Area off Hwy 44. It offers some spectacular views. At mile 2 the trail splits in two with the western leg swinging by Green Lake before rejoining the trail. You can extend the trip by taking the Swett Ranch Trail at the Greendale Rest Area.

Dowd Mountain Trail

The Dowd Mountain Trail was designed with mountain bikers in mind. It begins at Hwy 44 at the turnoff to the Dowd Mountain Overlook. The single track trail parallels the dirt road to a sensational overlook of the gorge. Along the way are nice views of the Uinta Mountains.

The Elk Park Loop follows dirt roads and single track trails up into the forested slopes of the Uinta Mountains. Along the way are views of the peaks of the Uintas and the Flaming Gorge area. The route passes the Ute Lookout Tower and attractive Brown Lake. Some steep rough sections may require walking. To reach the trailhead, go about 9 miles west on Hwy. 44 from its junction with Hwy. 191 (or 16 miles south from Manilla) and turn left onto FS Route 539. Go 2 miles in on the dirt road to signed trail.
