Arches National Park

Arches National Park is home to the largest concentration of sandstone arches in the world, some 2,000 in all. The park offers a great scenic drive and numerous good short hikes through the desert landscape for close looks at its most impressive rock formations.

Arches is 5 miles northwest of Moab.

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park is home to an immense expanse of deep orange-red canyons carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers and a wonderful array of superlative red rock formations. In addition to being a feast for the eyes, it provides great opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, 4wd adventuring, and white water rafting.

The Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands is roughly 35 miles west of Moab. The Needles section of Canyonlands is 75 miles southwest of Moab.

Dead Horse Point State Park

Dead Horse Point State Park is a small park with an absolutely outstanding view out over the Colorado River canyon and into Canyonlands National Park. It is about 35 miles west of Moab.

La Sal Mountains

La Sal Mountains are Utah's second highest mountain range. They stand above the red rock desert surroundings offering nice a nice scenic route and good hiking among heavy timberland. They begin 15-20 miles east of Moab.

Monticello

Monticello is a small town (pop. 2,400) at the base of the Abajo Mountains. At 7,000 feet it has cooler summer temperatures than most towns in Southeast Utah. It has a selection of accommodations and restaurants. Monticello is 55 miles south of Moab.
