The rugged
desert landscape of the southern and eastern portions of Utah (orange
area on maps) contains thousands of miles of scenic and challenging
4wd routes that bump and grind through exceedingly remote and unspoiled
red rock desert canyons. Areas in the southeast around Moab offer
the best selection of routes, though good options are available
in the southwestern and central Utah as well.
Destinations to consider are grouped by region below. Select any

The
San
Rafael Swell
is a terrifically wild and infrequently visited area of desert canyons.
It has lots of pristine backcountry for the adventurous.
The Wasatch
Plateau is a large area of
forested peaks, rolling hills, meadows and small alpine lakes. A
fair number of forest service roads suitable for 4wd vehicles provide
access to remote areas. |
