Provo boating and fishing - Go Utah Travel Guide

Water Recreation and boating are available.
Utah Lake
Utah Lake, located just a few miles west of Provo, provides good boating, sailing and water skiing opportunities. The lake is 24 miles long and averages about 11 miles wide, though the average depth is only about 10 feet. Utah Lake State Park (801-375-0731) is located on the eastern shore, 4 miles west of downtown Provo on Center Street. It has a picnic area, swimming beach, campground, marina and boat ramps.
Deer Creek Reservoir
Deer Creek Reservoir also provides good boating, sailing, water skiing and fishing opportunities. Strong predictable winds in summer make it a particularly popular sailing and windsurfing locale. Deer Creek State Park (801-654-0171), which surrounds the shoreline, has several boat ramps, picnic areas, swimming beaches, a restaurant, store and modern campground. There is also a resort and marina that rents watercraft. The reservoir is located along Hwy 189, about 18 miles northeast of Provo.
Seven Peaks Resort
Seven Peaks Resort offers water recreation of a different sort. It is a large, very popular water park, with over 40 heated pools and slides. You can also float down the Lazy River in inner tube or picnic on the extensive lawns. The park is open mid-May to Labor Day. East Center Street; 801-373-8777.
Provo River
The Provo River tumbles easily through the mountains in Provo Canyon into Provo. Easy 2-hour float trips are available from Frazier Park in the canyon down into town. For information and raft rentals contact:

Fishing, fly fishing and trout fishing with guides are available.
Lake Utah (described above)
Anglers go for catfish, yellow perch and a fewer number of bass and walleye. Fishing boats can be rented at the marina at Utah Lake State Park (435- 375-0731).
Deer Creek Reservoir (described above)
The lake is stocked yearly with rainbow trout and has largemouth bass and walleye that reproduce naturally.
Provo River
The Provo River flows southwest from the Deer Creek Reservoir through Provo Canyon. It was once named one of the top ten "blue ribbon" trout streams in the West by Field and Stream Magazine. It contains rainbows, cutthroats and browns as well as Rocky Mountain whitefish. The river can be accessed from Hwy 189 at many points in the canyon.
American Fork River
Though fish yields in the American Fork River do not rival the Provo River, it is a very attractive river to fish. It is stocked with rainbows and also yields browns. The American Fork River runs along Hwy 92 north of Mt. Timpanogos, about 12 miles north of Provo.
