South Campground (140 sites) and Watchman Campground (229 sites) are two large campgrounds in Zion Canyon area of the park. Both are set pleasantly among cottonwoods along the Virgin River at about 4,000 ft. Both have restrooms with cold running water and a disposal station.

South Campground is open year round. South Campground isfirst come, first served. South Campground rates: $14/night ($7/night with Golden Age or Access cards)

Watchman closes at the end of October, and opens at the beginning of April. Watchman reservations can be made online through the National Park Service Webpage http://www.nps.gov/zion or by calling 1-800-365-CAMP. Campground rates: $14/night for tent sites ($7/night with G. Age/Access cards) $16/night for sites with water and electricity ($8/night with G. Age/Access cards)

There is one primitive campground in the Kolob backcountry -- Lava Point Campground. 6 primitive tent or RV sites; vault toilets; fire grates, no water; first-come, first-serve; elev. 7,900 ft.; open June to October; free..
Dispersed camping is permitted everywhere in Zion except within 1 mile of any road or trailhead. Water is scarce during the summer, so be sure to check with a ranger for current information. [No fires are allowed, so you'll need a stove.] Backcountry camping permits are required and available [for a small fee] at the visitor centers at both Zion and Kolob canyons.

There are private campgrounds in the small towns along Hwy. 9 south of the park and along Hwy. 89 east of the park. There are also private campgrounds in more distant large towns of St. George and Cedar City.

Public Campgrounds
There are several public campgrounds near Zion.
Quail Creek State Park sits on the shore of pretty Quail Creek Reservoir. The reservoir offers boating, swimming and fishing opportunities. The campground sits neatly on a rise amongst desert vegetation overlooking the reservoir. It is located off Hwy. 9, 28 miles west of Zion Canyon. 23 adequately spaced sites; paved pull-ins; drinking water; modern restrooms; elev. 3,300 ft.; open year round; reservations: 800-322-3770; $8.
Red Cliffs is a pretty BLM campground set in an extremely attractive red rock canyon along the seasonal Quail Creek. It is a few miles past Quail Creek State Park just west of I-15. 10 well-spaced sites; gravel drive; drinking water; vault toilets; elev. 3,250 ft.; open year round; first-come, first-serve; $10.
Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is a small park 40 miles southeast of Zion Canyon. It features large sand dunes for dune buggies and ATV's. It has a pleasant, well-maintained campground in a wooded area. 22 sites; modern restrooms w/showers; dump station; 6,000 ft..; open year round (though the water is shut off from November to May); reservations; 800-322-3770; $12. Ice and firewood is available.
Ponderosa Grove Campground is a primitive BLM campground located just outside Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. 7 sites; no water; vault toilets; elev. 6,000 ft.; open year round; $5. (20 foot max. RV length.)
