Canyonlands National Park is wild, remote, inhospitable, and terribly beautiful. It is home to an immense expanse of deep orange-red canyons and a wonderful array of superlative red rock formations. Dinosaur National Monument has two identities. The Quarry Area, contains a quarry with some 1,600 exposed bones from 11 different dinosaur species. Near the quarry is a short nature hike, a pleasant scenic drive, Indian petroglyphs, and the preserved cabin of a female homesteader.

Green River State Park is an oasis on the bank of the Green River where tall cottonwood trees shade well-manicured lawns. The park is a favorite embarkation point for river trips through Labyrinth and Stillwater canyons and is a good base for seeing much of southeastern Utah.

Horseshoe Canyon is a separate unit of Canyonlands National Park situated 20 miles north of Hans Flat Ranger Station. This landmark was constructed during the great Depression from native materials and donated labor. Stones from nearby streams make up the exterior while juniper logs from the surrounding mountains were used inside.
