Hikers planning a trip to the scenic Red Castle Lakes on the north slope of the High Uintas generally have two different trails to choose from: the East Fork Smiths Fork Trail or the Bald Mountain Trail.
Located in the heart of Utah's Lone Peak Wilderness Area, Red Pine Lake definitely ranks among the prettiest of the Wasatch Mountains' high alpine lakes.
The Riggs Spring Loop Trail is a challenging 8-1/4 mile loop that descends from the pine forests of Rainbow Point past hoodoos into wooded canyons below. You'll encounter great panoramas south and pretty scenery all along. It can be tackled in a day with some effort or can be made into an easy overnighter.
Rim Overlook Trail starts with the Hickman Bridge Trail but then climbs sharply above the dry wash to sheer cliffs 1,000 feet above the park and nearby orchards.
The Rim Trail runs along the edge of the plateau above Fairyland and Bryce amphitheaters. It connects Fairyland Point, Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. It is 5-1/2 miles long in total but can be picked up at any of the lookouts and traveled just as long you want.
the River Trail runs along the Logan River from the mouth of the canyon up to Spring Hollow Campground. The trail is never too far from Hwy. 89, but it is mostly shielded by heavy plant growth.
This mostly flat paved trail follows the Virgin River up through the ever narrowing canyon to the point where the canyon is only as wide as the river. Along the way water seeping from canyon walls provides nourishment for heavy plant growth.
The Roadside Ruin Trail leads to an ancient preserved Anasazi granary.
