Lincoln Nebraska Travel Information
Far from its historical reputation of being “part of the Great
American Desert”, today’s Lincoln is a bustling metropolis of 250,000
people and counting. It offers the finest amenities, is rich in
cultural activities, and immerses itself in natural
beauty. Shopping here is a bonanza of retail and specialty
stores. One of the most endearing places is Downtown’s Haymarket.
Old warehouses that have been lovingly restored create an enchanting
region of shops and restaurants where savory smells sift through the
air and music and laughter abound. There are endless things to
see and do. Museums are everywhere including the Lentz Center for
Asian Culture, the University of Nebraska State Museum, and the Museum
of Nebraska History. There’s even a National Museum of Roller
Skating. The Children’s Zoo, State Capitol, and Governor’s Mansion
are great to visit, too. Drama, music, and dance light up Lied
Center, Kimball Hall, and Howell Studio and Theater among other venues
in town. And, a nightcap is always relaxing at one of the many
clubs. Spectator sports is fired up with a hot lineup of teams.
Whether it’s watching the Lincoln Stars zip across the ice swatting a
puck to goal or the Capitols pounding through the 50 yard line to the
resonant cheers of their fans, the Lincoln sport scene is alive and
well. And with the University athletic competitions included (their
volleyball team is #1 in the country), there’s a world of spectator
sports at hand. What about active sports? Well now, that’s
right in keeping with the bustling attitude of the town. There’s much
to be done here. Starting with the myriad of parks in the area, one
can easily find facilities for swimming, horseback riding, birding,
hiking, biking, rock climbing, and golf. In addition, fishing is
available at Holmes Lake and at the 325-acre Bluestream Lake State
Recreation, which also offers swimming and boating. Lincoln, the
Prairie Capital City, is a dynamo of activity located on I-80 in the
southeastern corner of Nebraska.
