Description
Cedar City is a lesser known climbing destination in southwestern Utah. The climbs here are low key and smaller than the routes to the north but make for a nice change from the predominately sandstone climbing of the southern parts of the state. The limestone climbs here are enough to easily fill up a one or two week trip and in addition there is usually no wait for a climb.
One can pick and choose between a number of different canyons and crags to find what area suits the day’s purposes. The best way to get acquainted with the area is to stop into The Mountain Shop in town and ask around or to buy the guidebook. There are plenty of both bolted and trad routes as well as some common bouldering. As a bonus, Cedar City is only ten minutes from Zion National Park and there is also a world renowned Shakespeare festival that takes place every year which is a trip in itself to go and see.
