Description
The Gauley River in Fayetteville, West Virginia, is ranked in the top ten rivers in the world for whitewater rafting! The river’s popularity is in part due to the huge amount of water released from the Summersville Dam in September and October. This world class river offers lots of options for all types of rafting experiences on its three different segments: The Upper, The Lower, and The Middle.
The Lower part of the Gauley river ranges from a class III to V. The river is made up of three class V rapids but welcomes adventurous beginners to come and enjoy them safely. The rapids include Koontz’s Flume, Mash, and Pure Screamin’ Hell…might want to watch out for that one! This segment is still just as exciting as the Upper Segment and has large holes and waves to ride and enjoy. Also, on this trip you get to raft by some cool ghost towns making your whitewater wilderness adventure complete and historical.
The Lower Segment on the Gauley River is a great choice for any whitewater enthusiast. The scenery is gorgeous with its steep cliffs and awesome sandstone along the way. Make sure to sign up early for a tour because they fill up fast. The season is during September and October and the minimum age requirement for the Lower Segment is twelve years old.
