Description

Poison Spider Mesa Trail follows a jeep road up and across Poison Spider Mesa providing nice vistas over the Colorado River to the Behind the Rocks area and Moab Valley. The route across the mesa involves sections of open slickrock requiring some very good trail finding skills. At mile 6 is the accurately named Little Arch. The descent from the mesa back to the Colorado River canyon floor involves an extremely challenging descent by way of the single track Portal Trail. It has claimed one life and should not be taken lightly. The Poison Spider demands that you be a skilled rider. You have to be able to ride through narrow canyons, through dry sand beds, over unstable ledges, over slick rock, up torturous ascents, and down severe descents. Less advanced bikers might want to turn around at Little Arch, creating a 12 mile out and back trip.
