Dinosaur National Monument - Biking

Fascinating Dinosaur Museum
Fascinating Dinosaur Museum

Dinosaur National Monument has plenty of trails both gentle and rugged for the desert explorers. Click on any of the names below for more detail.

Browns Park Advanced 28 miles 3+ hours
Backcountry riders will especially enjoy this trail. Two crossings of the Green River and a good jaunt through the river's marshes are what you can expect here. Keep an eye out for all the birds.

Cedar Mountain Biking Trail Beginner 3.5 mile loop 1 hour
This trail up Cedar Mountain is a steep climb through juniper forest, leading to a panoramic view of the Yampa Valley and southern Wyoming.

Dinosaur National Monument Chew Ranch Road Beginner
Intermediate
24 mile loop 2 - 3 hours
Chew Ranch is a cabin settlement inside the park and you can explore it (and the route to it) by bike. Most of this route is a pretty easy desert run, but can get steep in short sections.

Dinosaur National Monument Trail Intermediate 20 miles 3 - 4 hours
This trail takes you past the Quarry and over slickrock and high desert. It's a long trail over dramatic scenery and you may want to put in a day or two.

Douglas Mountain Boulevard Intermediate 20 miles round-trip 2 to 3 hours
This route, lined with red sandstone and ponderosa pine forest, offers stark vistas of the adjacent Browns Park area. Big game wildlife such as mule deer and elk are easy to see in this isolated area.

Dry Fork Canyon Intermediate 21.5 miles 3 hours
Fremont Indian petroglyphs are easily accessible from this trail, which follows paved roads as well. You get great scenery with no fear of being lost. Visit the historical marker for Dry Fork Village while you're out.

King's Park Beginner 8 miles 1 hour
King's Peak in Browns Park is gloriously remote and cycling up to the peak is an experience in solitude. The landscape spreading below is breathtaking.

Outlaw Trail Intermediate 5 miles 1 hour
Browns Park is one of the best places to experience the rich shores of the Green River and Outlaw Trail is one of the best river trails. Expect to see osprey, otter and moose as you bike.

Taylor Mountain Ramble Beginner
Intermediate
2-12 miles 1 - 2 hours
This is truly a ramble of a trail or, rather, trails. Cow paths and dirt roads intersect around the mountain itself and near Uintah Basin, Bush Creek Gorge and Ashley Gorge.

Vermillion Bluffs / Sevenmile Ridge Mountain Biking Trails Intermediate
Advanced
67 miles oneway Varies
The scenic vistas of the Vermillion Bluffs badlands are the setting for this trail, with chances of spotting wild horse herds in the rolling high desert terrain.

Yampa Valley Mountain Biking Trail Intermediate
Advanced
100 miles oneway Varies
The Yampa Valley Trail is a long route through the dry desert of northwestern Colorado. The scenery here is remote, silent, and has a rugged beauty all its own.
