  • Capitol Reef National Park

Capitol Reef National Park consists of a 100 mile long ridge of marvelously colored and wildly-varied red-, orange-, tan-, cream- rock. The park is rather isolated and is relatively lightly visited. Some of the most outstanding features of the park and its best short hikes can be accessed from Hwy 24 and the park's short scenic drive. The more adventurous can backpack or 4wd to exceedingly rugged and remote areas of the park.

  • Richfield

Richfield is a mid-sized town along I-70 that serves as a good travelers' stop. It has plenty of convenient places to stay and a selection of places to eat. It is within easy driving distance of Fish Lake, the Tushar Mountains and the southern reach of the Wasatch Plateau.

  • San Rafael Swell

The San Rafael Swell is a terrifically wild and lightly visited area of desert canyons in the heart of Utah. Visitors here should expect plenty of solitude in a harsh but starkly beautiful setting. Several rough but passable scenic drives are available as is backcountry hiking for the adventurous. The San Rafael River through the "Little Grand Canyon" makes for a pleasant flat water trip by raft or canoe.

  • Sanpete County

Sanpete County is a collection of small towns located in central Utah. Most communities in the area are cradled in the beautiful Sanpete Valley, bound by the Wasatch Plateau on the east and the Sanpitch Mountains on the west. These mountain ranges, and the many lakes and streams in the area, provide a variety of enticing outdoor opportunities.
