Hades Pass to Rocky Sea Pass Trail #074

The trail takes you into the relatively flat but sometimes boggy Grandaddy Basin and Brinton Meadow area to Four Lakes Basin and the Highline Trail. It affords access to the following Lakes: Grandaddy, LaMarla, Lodgepole, Betsy, Mohawk, Shadow, Palisade, Lilly Pad, Pine Island, Fish Hatchery, Lost, Rainbow, and several others. The maze of trails that it crosses provide a lot of opportunity for day hikes from a base camp anywhere in the area.

 The Basics

Difficulty: Intermediate
Length: 12 miles oneway
For the full 12 miles go all the way to Rocky Sea Pass just north of the Highline Trail
Elevation: 1900 feet
Season: June to October
Map: USGS Quads: Grandaddy Lake and Haden Peak

 Some More Things to Know

Grandview Trailhead is the main entree to Grandaddy Basin which is second only to Naturalist Basin in popularity. Hiking is fairly level throughout the Basin. Grandview is a nice, recently-constructed trailhead with concrete toilet facilities, horse trailer parking, packpacker parking, and several picnic tables.

 Directions to Trailhead

Highway 35 to Forest Road 144, 2.2 miles north of Hanna, then up the North Fork of the Duchesne River on a gravel road 6.7 miles to the Hades Canyon turnoff, just past Defa's Dude Ranch. Another 6 miles east on single-lane gravel to the Grandview Trailhead.
