Dinosaur National Monument has two identities. The Quarry Area, contains a quarry with some 1,600 exposed bones from 11 different dinosaur species. Near the quarry is a short nature hike, a pleasant scenic drive, Indian petroglyphs, and the preserved cabin of a female homesteader.

Big, beautiful Flaming Gorge Lake, enclosed by brightly colored canyon walls and set amidst hundreds of thousands of acres of forested hills, makes up the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. It is a wonderful setting in which to boat, fish, hike, bike or just stare.

Both sides of the Green River are preserved wild in the 12,150 acres of this refuge. Migratory birds such as the Great Basin Canada Goose find nesting grounds here. If birds are less interesting to you than animals of the four-legged variety, keep an eye out for elk, moose and otter.

The Flaming Gorge Dam is 502 feet tall and 1,285 long at its crest. A visitor center at the north end of the dam has exhibits, video programs and other information.

The Ute Tower is a working fire lookout tower in the Uinta Mountains southwest of Flaming Gorge. It was the first such tower built in Utah (1937) and the last still operating.
